Liberty Mutual Group
Liberty Mutual Insurance Company was founded in 1912 as the Massachusetts Employees’ Insurance Association. The company was originally established after a Massachusetts state law was passed requiring employers to protect their employees with workers compensation insurance.
Two years later, in 1914, the first branch office was opened in Springfield, MA. This is the same year in which their first auto insurance policy was written. Massachusetts Employees' Insurance Association formally became Liberty Mutual Insurance
